Landslide Incident in Khulo Municipality

Landslide Incident in Khulo Municipality

On February 6, heavy snowfall triggered a landslide in Khulo municipality, resulting in a tragic incident in the village of Zemo Tkhilvana. An avalanche struck a house in the morning, leading to the unfortunate death of a 63-year-old woman. The village of Tkhilwana is identified in the bulletin of the National Environment Agency as having a high risk of landslides: "The strengthening of the slope is not possible due to difficult relief and geological conditions Constant  monitoring should be continued." Specific anti-landslide measures, such as slope strengthening, were deemed infeasible due to challenging terrain and geological conditions. Instead, continuous monitoring was recommended to mitigate risks. The bulletin also highlighted that natural-geological processes are active in the area, indicating the potential for landslides at any time. Given the inability to implement targeted preventive measures, ongoing monitoring was crucial to prevent further tragedies.

On the same day, several villages in Khulo Municipality experienced landslides, including Khikhadziri, Ghorjomi, Elelidze, and Renewal villages.
